Arrest History in Custer County
The Custer County Sheriff's Office creates arrest and incident reports for its own deputies and books people at the sheriff and jail complex in Challis. County records also document law-enforcement contracts with Challis, Mackay, and Stanley, so an event inside one of those cities may still be a sheriff record rather than a city police file. Idaho State Police, federal land officers, and other agencies can make arrests too. The badge, citation, or booking paperwork should identify which agency owns the report.
An arrest history can join several event records over time, but no single Custer County screen does that work. The agency report describes the allegation and arrest. That local practice means absence from the Challis facility does not always mean the person was never booked or is no longer in custody.

Use Custer County's 2026 Records Form
The sheriff's March 31, 2026 public-records form is the formal fallback for arrest reports and booking material not displayed online. It asks for requester contact information, a clear record description, relevant dates, and whether the requester wants inspection or a copy. Include the incident or case number, date, place, arresting unit, and desired format when known. A narrow request is easier to locate and less likely to trigger avoidable search costs.

Idaho's Public Records Act generally calls for a response within three working days, or a written notice that more time is needed with a response within ten working days. A response may produce records, explain a lawful denial, request clarification, or give an extension.

When Idaho State Police Made the Arrest

A current-custody answer also has a narrow time frame. Release, transfer, or out-of-county housing can remove a person from the local facility while the original booking record remains. For the filed charge and disposition, move to iCourt and the Custer County court clerk.
Four Dates in a Custer County Arrest Trail
Arrest, booking, filing, and disposition are separate events. The arrest date reflects the officer's action. Booking marks entry into custody. A filing date appears only if the prosecutor brings a criminal case. The disposition date records how a filed charge ended. A searcher who compares only one date can join the wrong records or assume a recent booking should already have a court result.
Use the report number or booking identifier to confirm the first two stages and the court case number for the last two. A missing court case soon after an arrest may mean filing has not happened, not that the arrest record vanished.

Arrests vs Convictions
An arrest records an accusation and custody event. A conviction requires a guilty plea, verdict, or judgment in court.
